Aluminum containers in the microwave ?

Our aluminum containers go in the MICROWAVE !

Is it safe to use aluminum containers in a microwave ?

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to heat food in an aluminum container in the microwave. This method is even recommended for uniform and healthy cooking. A significant study by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) shows that aluminum packaging is perfectly suitable for microwave cooking, provided certain guidelines are followed.

Supporting study

A study conducted by a German institute specializing in applied science research (Fraunhofer) has demonstrated that aluminum packaging can be safely used in microwave ovens, provided certain guidelines are followed.

After extensive testing in various microwave ovens at different power levels and following the guidelines, no damage to the appliances or sparking was observed. The tests also demonstrated that food cooked in aluminum trays resulted in more even cooking and a more appealing appearance.

Usage instructions

Just like many everyday objects, our aluminum containers require following some guidelines and precautions to ensure safe use in the microwave. It is important to understand that very large aluminum containers are not recommended for microwave cooking, as they may touch the walls of the appliance. The size of the container should therefore be adapted to the microwave being used.

Here are the guidelines to ensure safe cooking :

  • Place the aluminum container in the center of the microwave and ensure that the container is smaller than the turntable, so it remains well positioned in the center without touching the microwave walls.
  • Use a ceramic or glass turntable to isolate the container from metallic surfaces.
  • Only put one container at a time in the microwave, remove the lid (unless otherwise indicated), and ensure that the ingredients cover most of the container.

What about sealing films?

Many prepared dishes are sealed either with a plastic lid or with a sealing film to protect the food. Most sealing films are designed to be microwave-safe; however, it is important to always verify this information with your supplier.

Microwave-safe sealing films are not only designed to withstand heat, but they can also speed up cooking thanks to steam, allowing food to heat more evenly and quickly. Additionally, they help maintain cleanliness by reducing food splatters in your microwave oven.

Aluminium : a wise packaging choice for ready-to-eat products

The popularity of prepared meals is undeniable and continues to grow. TalThi offers its customers containers that provide a complete solution for ready-to-eat meals as they can be used to cook, reheat, and consume food in the same container.

Indeed, aluminum containers stand out for their ability to withstand temperatures from -40°C / -40°F à 350°C / 662°F (maximum of 200°C / 392°F when coated). This material is the only one to offer such great versatility for use in the microwave, oven, grill, air fryer, and freezer.

In addition to being a complete packaging solution, aluminum is a wise choice in terms of ecological footprint. Aluminum is a highly recyclable material, it can be recycled indefinitely without losing its properties, making it a particularly sustainable material.
